Most of the major automakers saw their electric vehicle (EV) insurance registrations in China rebound further last week.
For the week of February 26 to March 3, Nio (NYSE: NIO) saw 3,600 insurance registrations of its vehicles in China, up 56.52 percent from 2,300 in the previous week, according to figures shared today by its local peer Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI).
Li Auto has routinely shared these numbers on Tuesday afternoons since May 2023. The February 26-March 3 period includes the last four days of February and the first three days of March.
Nio delivered 8,132 vehicles in February, a decrease of 33.11 percent year-on-year and down 19.12 percent from January, according to figures it released March 1.
The deliveries included 4,765 SUVs and 3,367 sedans, according to the company, which did not provide specific figures for different models.
Nio currently sells the ES8, ES7, ES6, EC7, EC6, ET7, ET5, and ET5 Touring, the first five of which are SUVs and the last three are sedans.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) had 2,400 insurance registrations last week, doubling from 1,200 the week before.
Xpeng delivered 4,545 vehicles in February, down 24.38 percent year-on-year and down 44.91 percent from January.
Xpeng announced on January 26 that it started an upgrade project at its Zhaoqing plant in Guangdong province, which would last for about 20 days, with overall production line commissioning completed by the end of February.
Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) had insurance registrations of 6,200 vehicles last week, unchanged from the previous week.
Li Auto delivered 20,251 vehicles in February, up 21.85 percent from a year earlier, but down 35 percent from January.
Li Auto said on March 1 that it aims to rebound to 50,000 monthly deliveries in March.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) had 12,500 insurance registrations in China last week, up 15.74 percent from 10,800 the previous week.
Tesla sold 60,365 China-made vehicles in February, according to data released yesterday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
The monthly sales, which include exports from China to overseas markets, were down 18.87 percent from 74,402 in the same month last year and 15.51 percent from 71,447 in January.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) was at 38,500 units last week, up 21.84 percent from the previous week’s 31,600.
